Future Travel

I don't really believe in "travel goals". You often hear people say things like "I want to set foot on every continent." Or "I want to visit 50 countries by the time I am 30 years old." Another popular one would be: "I want to date someone from every continent." Of course I have some travelling ambitions, and if you asked me for a list of countries I would like to visit, it would probably include China, Nepal, Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines, Colombia, Mexico, Chile ... and many more. Ideally, I would like to go and live in some of these countries, as I believe that is the best way to get to know them. I would also love to come back to India and visit some of the places that I hadn't seen yet. In the near future, my travels will revolve around visiting my many friends abroad. I am very fortunate that they are all keen to invite me to their countries; I am extremely grateful for this, and if anyone fancies a trip to London, remember that my door is always open to all long-lost friends!

Enough waffling, here are the trips I am planning in the near future:

  • September / October 2008 - New York - a trip to meet up with my Mexican friend Luisiana, whose credit card needs a rest from all those trips across the pond to Europe and we have therefore agreed to meet half way in New York. Sigrid, our mutual friend, who welcomed us to her house in Vienna this summer, is also planning to come ... and maybe we will persuade a few other girls. The Sex and the City tour is definitely going to be a highlight of this trip.
  • March 2009 - Aix-en-Provence & Paris - a friend of mine, Zuzana, whom I have known since primary school, is going to France for a year to do the Erasmus exchange programme. I have promised to visit her in Aix-en-Provence, in the very south of France. I would also like to go to Paris at the same time, as I had never been there before and it will give me a chance to catch up with my ex-colleague, Antoine, whom I met in India.
  • December 2009 - Colombia - my housemate from India, Ingrid, is so enthusiastic about her country that I simply cannot resist her invitation. I am starting to brush up my Spanish and I am extremely excited about this trip. Colombia is a very diverse country, with every possible type of landscape - beautiful tropical beaches, rainforest, mountains, coffee plantations, cities with colonial architecture. At the same time, it is relatively undiscovered as a tourist destination, so this is going to be a big backpacking adventure. It will be my first time in Latin America and I cannot wait to pack my bags and get on the plane. Ingrid is one of the most energetic and welcoming people that I have ever met in my life. If that is what the other Colombians are like, then I am surely going to have a lot of fun!
